Facing the Past

When Breaking Mirrors fails

You figure this game would be too easily won simply to break a mirror. Therefore you opt for facing the past.
The 30 seconds end as fast as they began.
“I see that you opted to face your past,” says the announcer. “I admire your courage. Let’s test how far that courage will go!”

A swarm of past visions assail you, until they settle on one in particular. You see a familiar face tied to tragedy.
“Friend,” says a familiar voice, “Why didn’t you save me?”

You are not sure what to say. A thousand answers come to you, but you can only say one to him. If you say the correct answer you will be allowed another chance to escape. One prominent answer comes to mind.

“I did the best I could do at the time.”
The memory answers back, “But it wasn’t good enough, was it?”
At this you realize you have two options on how to handle this:

1) Realize there is no quenching this tormentor.
2) Apologize for something that is not your fault.

This is the crossroads where paths are woven,
Now is the place of a road newly chosen. **

*See Past this Regretful Apparition

*Apologize to Your Fallen Friend
